With summer just around the corner, is your evaporative cooler ready for Melbourne’s Heat? Evaporative Coolers are perfect for Melbourne’s summer climate providing energy efficient cooling to survive Melbourne’s heat spells.

WHAT IS EVAPORTAIVE COOLING?

When seeking a cooling system for your home or business that is efficient, cost-effective and eco-friendly, an evaporative cooling system should be top of the list.

Evaporative cooling, as the name suggests, cools air by evaporating water. This is done first by drawing in the surrounding fresh, hot or warm, dry air from outside your house via a cooling unit on top of the roof that is connected to a series of outlets, or ducts, placed strategically throughout the building. The warm air is then filtered through wet pads or quilts, with the resulting evaporation cooling the air and increasing its moisture content. This technique allows evaporative cooling devices to be used even in open areas.

So essentially, it takes in the warm air from the outside and the produced cool air is then blasted through the entire house via the ductwork into every room you want cooled and then out through open windows and doors, giving a steady supply of fresh, cool air.

EVAPORATIVE COOLING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why isn’t may evaporative cooler working?

If you find your evaporative cooler isn’t cooling things down, make sure the a door or window is open opposite the vent to create a cross breeze to draw the hot air out. Still not working??? Call MBM Pluming for an assessment and service on 0433185711

How many windows and doors do I need to have open for my evaporative cooler to work effectively?

For an evaporative cooler to work effectively, some windows or outside doors must be open, or some other form of ventilation provided. This is to allow the hot air to escape from the building. The best approach is to open the windows or outside doors that are the furthest away from the evaporative air conditioning vents or ducts. In the rooms with air conditioning vents, try to have an exhaust area of an open window (or door) that is about twice the size of the vent opening. Note: when it’s humid and the air is very moist, evaporation levels are lower. This means that the cooling effect is reduced. In some situations, it may help to switch the air conditioner to “ventilation” mode increase exhaust area and run the fan on a high speed.

Will my evaporative cooling work when it is humid?

When the weather is  humid and the air is moist, evaporation levels are low. This means that the cooling effect is reduced. Switching your unit to ventilation mode may help.

Why does my Evaporative Cooler smell?

If you are experiencing a burning smell it may be due to an electrical fault with the fan.  A musty smell may be due to deterioration of pads or water not draining properly. Call MBM Plumbing to service your Evaporative cooler on 0433185711
