The smoke from the bush fires in NSW and VIC have affected air quality in Melbourne. Due to Melbourne’s summer heat MBM Plumbing have received enquiries from clients asking: Can I run my air conditioning? Can I run my evaporative cooling system?
Exposure to smoke can trigger:
- Asthma
- Cause irritation to your eyes, nose and throat.
Other symptoms that might be experienced:
- Coughing, sneezing and difficulty breathing.
If you have having difficulty breathing contact 000.
To reduce your risk and exposure to bush fire smoke it is recommended to stay indoors with windows and doors closed or sealed.
Can I run my air conditioner with bush fire smoke?
Yes. You can run your split system air conditioner during periods of poor air quality caused by the bush fire smoke. Your split system will recirculate the air inside and not draw external air in.
It is recommended to keep all windows and doors closed to reduce smoke particles from coming inside your house.
It is smokey outside. Can I run my evaporative cooling system with bush fire smoke?
Evaporative cooling systems draw air in from outside, therefore the bush fire smoke and particles will be brought inside through your evaporative cooling system. When running an evaporative cooling system you are required to keep windows and doors open to allow air flow. During periods of poor air quality, it is recommended to keep all windows and doors sealed. Therefore MBM Plumbing do not recommend using your evaporative cooling system. How ever you can still use ceiling fans or split systems.
CONTACT MBM Plumbing today for further information or services. If you can smell smoke when you turn your evaporative cooler on call us to book a service.
